Ah, yes. I should do more John of the Cross. Check out the poem toward the beginning of Ascent (Book III, I believe). It's perhaps the most Zen-like verse in the Christian tradition, but be sure you're reading the Rodriguez/Kavanaugh translation. It preserves the Zen-like nature of what I think John was doing. Other translations are pithier but in the process, they washed out much of John's meaning.
